FAQs

Can I set my alarm system at night?
Yes, your alarm allows for full setting, part setting and night setting. Typically, with a night setting, you are free to move around in some areas of your home such as upstairs whilst the ground floor is alarmed.

Can I still have an alarm fitted if I have a pet?
Yes, we can offer pet-friendly sensors for a limited number and size of pets.

Does my alarm system come with a guarantee?
Yes, your alarm system will come with a full 12-month parts and labour guarantee. After this time we will write to you explaining the maintenance options available.

What are monitored alarms?
A monitored alarm connects to an Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) which is a remote central station manned 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, via your telephone line. For instance, if the alarm system detects any intrusion, it will immediately send an intruder signal to the ARC via the phone line or mobile GSM. Within seconds, the ARC will verify the alarm signal and decide the appropriate course of action to alert you or one or more of your nominated key holders and if necessary alert the Police via an agreed communication channel.

What happens to my alarm monitoring if my phone line is cut?
Alarm monitoring of your premises requires an active phone line. The risk of a vulnerable phone line can be overcome by adopting a dual signaling method such as Redcare or Emizon, which uses the GPRS network if the landline fails.

Would my wireless internet interfere with the wireless alarm?
Your wireless alarm will utilise a dedicated 868 MHz narrowband radio channel which is exclusive for the security industry and as such is unlikely to receive interference from your wireless internet connection. However, we always fit an ASDL filter when the alarm is monitored or has a speech dialer fitted.

What are keyholders?
Keyholders are people who you trust to enter your property if your alarm is activated. Keyholders are used when we cannot contact you directly.

Can you maintain my alarm even if it is installed by another company?
Yes, we can service and maintain any system, installed by any alarm company.

What are the different types of alarms that Alarming UK installs?
Alarming UK installs wireless and hardwired alarm systems. Once we have conducted a site survey and discussed your requirements, we can then design the best system that suits your needs.

How long does the work take?
It varies on the size of the property, but typically, a three-bedroom house will take a day.

Will the work create a mess?
We always try to minimise the disruption or inconvenience caused when we carry out an installation. Whilst the installation is taking place, we will cover the floor area’s with dust sheets and once we have finished we sweep or vacuum up any dirt if necessary.

Is Alarming UK competitive on pricing?
All our systems are competitively priced. If you obtain a cheaper written quote for an identical system, we will match the price.

Are alarms easy to use?
The alarms we install are very user friendly, either a 4-digit pin or a proximity fob will set and unset the system. A simplified user guide is provided and we are here to help, so you can call us if you have any issues.

I have been told wireless systems are unreliable - is this true?
That was probably true a few years ago, but with new technology, the systems are virtually as good as any wired system now, but with their own particular advantages.

Do you use sub-contractors to fit systems?
No, all our engineers are directly employed and security screened.

Will the alarm detect people outside?
PIR detectors fitted within the premises will not detect people outside.

What is the advantage of an annual maintenance contract?
An annual maintenance contract gives you 24hr call out facility 365 days a year with a maximum 4hr response to emergency calls. The system is also serviced regularly in accordance with NSI and British Standards. Contract customers also benefit for discounts on spare parts, additional items and labour rates.
